Version 1.0
Effective date: 14 June 2026
These terms govern access to and use of Pedigree, a browser-based research and documentation tool provided by the operator of Switzerland Omics® in Switzerland. In these terms, “Switzerland Omics” means that operator.
These Pedigree terms supplement the general terms of use. If there is a conflict concerning Pedigree, these Pedigree terms apply.
By accessing or using Pedigree, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use Pedigree.
Intended use
Pedigree is provided for research, education, documentation and visualisation in genetics and related fields.
Pedigree may be used by academic, public-sector, non-profit and commercial organisations. This includes internal research, externally funded research, professional research services, education, publication and clinical documentation.
Pedigree is not intended to provide a diagnosis, medical advice, genetic counselling, treatment recommendation or patient-management decision. It is not a substitute for review by an appropriately qualified healthcare, genetics or research professional.
Pedigree must not be used as the sole basis for a diagnosis, treatment decision, reproductive decision or any other decision affecting an individual’s health or welfare.
Users are responsible for checking all family relationships, annotations, nomenclature, classifications, genomic findings and generated outputs before relying on or distributing them.
Browser processing and local storage
Information entered into Pedigree is processed within the user’s browser.
Pedigree may automatically save a project snapshot in the browser’s local storage so that work can be restored during a later visit. Locally stored information may remain on the device after the browser is closed and may be accessible to another person who can use the same device or browser profile.
Switzerland Omics does not intentionally receive or store pedigree records, imported files, family information, phenotype data, genomic findings or generated reports on its servers through the Pedigree application.
Users are responsible for securing their device and browser profile, managing locally stored information, retaining appropriate backups and deleting information when it is no longer required.
Users must not enter personal, health, genetic or confidential information unless they have the authority and lawful basis to do so and have implemented appropriate safeguards. Direct identifiers should be avoided unless they are necessary, authorised and appropriately protected.
Further information is provided in the Pedigree privacy notice.
Website analytics
The Switzerland Omics website may use Google Analytics to collect general information about visits and use of the website.
Pedigree records, imported data and generated report contents are not intended to be included in analytics information.
Further information is provided in the general privacy policy and cookie policy.
Permission to use Pedigree
Subject to these terms, Switzerland Omics grants each user a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable right to access and use the hosted Pedigree application.
This permission includes use within commercial organisations and commercial research activities. No separate commercial licence or fee is required for permitted use of the hosted application or generated outputs.
Users may share links to the official Pedigree webpage and may direct colleagues, collaborators, clients and other authorised users to the hosted application.
This permission does not transfer ownership of Pedigree or grant access to, or rights in, its source code.
User data and generated outputs
Users retain their rights in information they enter into Pedigree.
Users may use, reproduce, modify, publish, distribute and include generated reports, figures and files in research, teaching materials, publications, presentations, professional reports, client work and commercial activities.
Users may charge for their own research, analysis, professional services, publications or other work that includes generated outputs.
Publicly distributed generated outputs must include a reasonable attribution to Pedigree and Switzerland Omics®. The following wording may be used:
Generated using Pedigree by Switzerland Omics®.
For a complete generated report, the embedded Pedigree attribution and legal footer must be retained. For an extracted or adapted figure, table or file, attribution may appear in the caption, methods, acknowledgements or accompanying documentation. Attribution is not required where the output format cannot reasonably support it.
Users must not state or imply that Switzerland Omics has reviewed, verified, approved or endorsed their data, conclusions, services or generated outputs.
Restrictions on the application
Except where applicable law expressly permits otherwise, users must not:
- copy, reproduce or save an operational copy of the Pedigree application or its source code, other than transient copies created automatically through ordinary browser use;
- modify, adapt, translate or create a derivative version of the application or its source code;
- publish, transmit, share, redistribute, mirror or host a modified or unmodified copy of the application or its source code;
- sell, rent, lease, sublicense or otherwise make the application or its source code available to another person;
- incorporate the application, its source code or protected interface elements into another product, platform, website or service;
- reverse engineer, decompile, disassemble or otherwise attempt to reconstruct protected elements of the application, except where applicable law expressly permits this;
- use automated extraction, scraping or similar methods to reconstruct the application, its source code, report templates or protected interface;
- remove, obscure or alter copyright, trade mark, attribution or legal notices displayed in the application;
- use the Switzerland Omics® name, Pedigree name, logos or branding in a way that suggests ownership, affiliation, approval or endorsement; or
- bypass, interfere with or attempt to defeat technical measures used to operate, secure or control access to Pedigree.
These restrictions do not prevent users from sharing the official Pedigree webpage, using the hosted application as permitted, or using generated outputs in accordance with these terms.
Intellectual property
Pedigree, including its source code, original interface, visual design, documentation, report templates, text, graphics and branding, is protected by copyright, trade mark and other applicable laws.
Switzerland Omics® is a registered word mark.
Except for the limited permissions expressly granted in these terms, all rights in Pedigree are reserved.
Pedigree may include third-party materials or components. Those materials remain subject to the rights and licence terms of their respective owners. Where a third-party licence grants rights that cannot be restricted by these terms, that licence applies to the relevant component.
No warranty
Pedigree is provided free of charge on an “as is” and “as available” basis.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Switzerland Omics gives no warranty that Pedigree or its outputs are complete, accurate, clinically valid, error-free, uninterrupted, secure or suitable for a particular purpose.
Pedigree may contain errors. Scientific, clinical, technical and interoperability standards may also change over time.
Users remain responsible for independently reviewing and validating all inputs and outputs.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Switzerland Omics is not liable for losses, claims, costs, decisions or damages arising from or relating to:
- inaccurate, incomplete or unlawfully entered data;
- incorrect pedigree structures, relationships, annotations, nomenclature or classifications;
- failure to review or validate generated outputs;
- reliance on Pedigree for research, clinical, professional or commercial decisions;
- loss, corruption, disclosure or unauthorised access to information stored locally or exported by a user;
- incompatibility with external software, standards, systems or file formats;
- interruption, restriction, modification or discontinuation of Pedigree; or
- unauthorised copying, modification, distribution or use by a third party.
Nothing in these terms excludes or limits liability where exclusion or limitation is prohibited by law, including liability for intentional or grossly negligent conduct.
Mandatory statutory rights remain unaffected.
Availability and changes
Switzerland Omics may update, correct, restrict, suspend or discontinue Pedigree at any time.
These terms may also be updated. The current version and effective date will be published on this page.
A new version applies from its stated effective date. Material changes do not remove permissions already exercised lawfully in relation to outputs generated under an earlier version.
Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by Swiss law.
Subject to mandatory legal rights and mandatory places of jurisdiction, disputes relating to Pedigree are subject to the courts of Zurich, Switzerland.
